Paul Lewis

Paul Lewis is one of our firm’s most senior family lawyers. He is well known for his ability to settle cases away from Court and for his technical skills in litigated cases. Paul also has 30 years experience as an accredited mediator.

Clients value Paul for his clear and direct communication, his natural way of supporting clients through whatever dispute resolution process they are participating in, and the way he helps clients understand the micro and macro items involved in separation and divorce.

Since 1990, Paul has practiced in all areas of family law. In his early years of practice, he worked in other areas of law, such as personal injury law, bankruptcy, small business and commercial agreements, retail leases, and anti-discrimination law- valuable experience when they arise in a family law case.

Paul majored in Psychology in his Arts/Law degree at Sydney University. He was accredited by the NSW Law Society as an Accredited Specialist in Family Law in 1999 and an Accredited Specialist in Dispute Resolution in 2017. He is a past President of ADRA Inc. (Australian Dispute Resolution Association.) He has been an editorial consultant for the ADRJ (Australasian Dispute Resolution Journal) for over 20 years.

Paul was an early adopter of Collaborative family dispute resolution, being in the first group of lawyers trained in Collaborative Law in Sydney in 2005. He joined the inaugural board of Collaborative Professionals (NSW) the following year.

As a former Independent Children’s Lawyer (ICL), and with experience as a FDRP (family dispute resolution practitioner), Paul is a strong advocate for the child’s voice in parenting matters. He quickly identifies the points of conflict and the issues and evidence relevant to evaluating the best interests of the child.

Paul has comprehensive experience in financial cases, including acting for clients based in rural areas, interstate and overseas. He is skilled in dealing with business valuation issues and matters involving third parties and complex trusts. Alongside his full-time practice at Ramsden Family Law, Paul is a general member of NCAT (sessional) undertaking conciliation and hearing cases in the Consumer and Commercial Division.
